Day 23 # A Blog by Sones

Well hello there, everyone! 

It’s me, Sones! Just a brief intro here for me! I am a 40 years old American from the Deep South, who now lives in Maui. I am one of the more quiet members of the JemmaInternational Team, but I have been here from almost the start - although I guess I didn’t officially join the Team until a few months into everything! 

 Who can believe that it’s been 10 years since we started this Jemma Journey!?! When I think about that it just blows my mind, because it REALLY doesn’t seem like it’s been 10 years since I was rushing home from work to find out if a new episode had been uploaded yet so that I could first WATCH IT, and then second - begin working on my part of the SRT project that we had going on at that time. When I think about it now, I almost cannot believe that we pulled that off. I mean, for MONTHS I would literally come home, say a quick hi to my partner and our cats and then sit down for several hours to translate the episode and then do my part to get that info into the SRT files so that those who wanted captions could have them! The SRT project was incredibly important to me because I am Hard of Hearing/Deaf myself, and I was just so amazed that I had found a fandom that not only cared about TRYING to make sure that the show was translated into whatever language people were asking for, but also that there were people who cared enough to make captions as well! All of that doesn’t even count the HOURS that I spent on Chat forming friendships that still exist to this day, and that I know will last a lifetime. 

 That’s what made the JemmaNation so special though, isn’t it? In this fandom we all found a place that we had never found before, with people who have since become family. I’ve been a part of a few fandoms over the years - Buffy, Xena, Pepsi, etc. ... and most recently Wynonna Earp ... and while all of those fandoms have been great, they just do not hold a candle to the things I’ve experienced as a “citizen” of JemmaNation. No other fandom will make me stop dead in a Grocery store because I *think* I may have heard “Secrets” playing, or “Survivor,” etc. 

This year has been absolutely crazy for all of us, hasn’t it? The world just doesn’t look the same anymore, and when we were talking about the Advent Calendar, the one thing that we knew FOR SURE was that we were going to do it - because we knew that out there, somewhere, there would be a member of our JemmaNation family waiting for it, and that was enough for us to make sure we were here for you again. I hope that everything we’ve been able to pull together this year has been just as special to you as the prior years when every door was something new. We here at JemmaInternational want to wish every single one of you a Happy Holiday Season!

Hallo an Euch alle!

Ich bin’s, Sones! Ich stelle mich mal kurz vor! Ich bin eine 40 Jahre alte US-Amerikanerin aus dem tiefen Süden, die jetzt in Maui lebt. Ich bin eines der stilleren Mitglieder des JemmaInternational-Teams, aber ich war hier fast von Anbeginn an dabei – obwohl ich dem Team offiziell erst ein paar Monaten nach den ersten Anfängen beigetreten bin!

Es ist unglaublich, dass es jetzt 10 Jahre her ist, seit wir diese Jemma-Reise begonnen haben! Wenn ich darüber nachdenke, haut es mich um, denn es fühlt sich WIRKLICH nicht an, als wäre es schon 10 Jahre her, dass ich von der Arbeit nach Hause geeilt bin, um herauszufinden, ob die neue Folge schon hochgeladen wurde, so dass ich sie erstens ANGUCKEN und dann zweitens mit meinem Teil der Arbeit am SRT-Projekt, welches wir zu der Zeit am Laufen hatten, beginnen konnte. Wenn ich heutzutage darüber nachdenke, kann ich es kaum glauben, dass wir das geschafft haben. Ich meine, ich bin MONATELANG buchstäblich nach Hause gekommen, habe kurz meiner Partnerin und unseren Katzen Hallo gesagt und mich dann für mehrere Stunden hingesetzt, um die Folge zu übersetzen und dann meinen Teil dazu beizutragen, die Informationen in die SRT-Dateien zu übertragen, so dass diejenigen, die Untertitel haben wollten, sie auch kriegen konnten! Das SRT-Projekt war mir wahnsinnig wichtig, weil ich selber schwerhörig/taub bin und ich war so überrascht, dass ich ein Fandom gefunden hatte, dem es nicht nur wichtig war, die Show in verschiedene Sprachen zu übersetzen, sondern auch, dass es Leute gab, denen es wichtig genug war auch noch Untertitel zu erstellen! Und all dies beinhaltet noch nicht einmal die STUNDEN, die ich im Chat zugebracht habe, und wo ich Freundschaften geschlossen habe, die es heute noch gibt und die, davon bin ich überzeugt, ein Leben lang halten werden.

 Aber das ist es, was die JemmaNation so besonders gemacht hat, nicht wahr? Wir alle haben in diesem Fandom einen Ort gefunden, den wir vorher noch nie gefunden hatten, mit Menschen, die seitdem zu unserer Familie gehören. Ich war über die Jahre Teil von einigen Fandoms – Buffy, Xena, Pepsi, etc. … und neuerdings Wynonna Earp … und obwohl alle diese Fandoms toll waren, können sie all den Dingen, die ich als „Bürgerin“ der JemmaNation erlebt habe, nicht das Wasser reichen. Kein anderes Fandom lässt mich im Supermarkt plötzlich stehenbleiben, nur weil ich *glaube* „Secrets“ oder „Survivor“ o.ä. gehört zu haben.

Dieses Jahr war für uns alle total verrückt, stimmt‘s? Man erkennt die Welt nicht wieder, und als wir auf den Adventskalender zu sprechen kamen, war für uns klar, dass wir es versuchen würden – denn wir wussten, dass da draußen, irgendwo, ein Mitglied unserer JemmaNation-Familie sein würde, das auf ihn wartet, und das war für uns Grund genug, alles dafür zu tun, wieder für Euch da zu sein.

Ich hoffe, dass alles, was wir dieses Jahr für Euch zusammengestellt haben, für Euch genauso schön war, wie die Jahre zuvor, als jedes Türchen immer etwas Neues enthielt. Wir von JemmaInternational wünschen jedem einzelnen von Euch eine schöne Weihnachtszeit!
