Ben: So you really want to have a race?
Ronnie: The loser has to give his car to the winner.
Ben: Deal!
Sophie cheering.
Ben: Fuck, fuck, shit!
Ronnie: Sir?
Ben: Shit, we have to leave! And fast!
Luzi: Great idea, without a car!
Ronnie: Hey! Take that one! It's cool.
Ben: Thanks, man.
Ronnie: But don't get caught with it, okay?
Ben: Huh!?!
Ronnie: The car's not mine, man!
Ben: Whose is it then?
Ronnie: No idea, man!
Intro
[On the streets]
Ben and Luzi watch Ronnie drive away in Ben's car.
Ben: He can't be serious. That car isn’t really stolen.... he's talking shit, right?!
Luzi: Dude, no idea! The cops are coming! This Ronnie sets up races, he’s cheated you out of your Mustang! Surely he isn't above stealing cars!
Ben: Well, whatever, we have to leave, get in!
Luzi: Ben, wait! Are you crazy? If they find us in this stolen car – Dude, give me the damn keys!
(She throws them away)
Ben: Are you crazy?
Luzi: Run! Shit, run!
(And they run. About time, because the cops are just rounding the corner, but by the time they are out of their car, Luzi and Ben are out of sight.)
[In Helena's office]
She has her phone in hand, going through her contacts, thinking about calling Michael, but then dials another number.
[Bergmann villa]
Stefan is drinking and laughing with the Hartmanns.
Stefan: And next time, buy at FlexCon, then the Russians will see what they can get with their TecDAX!
Herr Hartmann: Listen, Black Friday. One broker to the other: “Have you bought a weapon yet?” and the other: “With what?”
(They start laughing again, when a phone rings. Herr Hartmann looks at his, but puts it away again, so Stefan takes his out.)
Stefan: Excuse me. (He takes the call and gets up) Bergmann? (The Hartmanns look at each other, smile and embrace) Well this is a surprise.
Helena: (on the other end of the phone line) Well, I am happy to surprise you. What are you doing right now?
Stefan: Oh, I have guests, friends.
Helena: I understand, too bad.
Stefan: Why?
Helena: Well, I thought we could go have a drink.
Stefan: Today?
Helena: Why not?
Stefan: At your place?
Helena: I'd suggest Saal Eins.
Stefan: At Saal Eins, very well. In twenty minutes? (What a wonderful host you are, Stefan...)
Helena: Let's say thirty.
Stefan: Alright. See you soon. (He hangs up) Rolf, Christine... I am sorry, I have to go.
Herr Hartmann: The bank?
Stefan: Yeah... Unfortunately, this could keep me out late – but make yourself at home! I'll see you at breakfast tomorrow.
Frau Hartmann: Bye.
Herr Hartmann: Have a nice evening.
[At school]
Alexandra is staring out the window, when Götting comes in.
Götting: What are you still doing here? (Alexandra turns to him and tosses the paper on the table) Moskauer stock market.
Alexandra: The other side...
(The headline says “Murder of Franziska L. solved – Suspects remain free”)
Götting: Can't you just ignore that?
Alexandra: Ignore it? Jens Mierbach and Monika Klein have both – both! - been released from prison again!
Götting: You already knew that.
Alexandra: And because of that it can't hurt me when I read it in the newspaper?
Götting: Alexandra... I thought you'd pulled yourself together a bit.
Alexandra: I'm trying.
Götting leaves, Alexandra stares at the paper some more, then gets the gun out of her bag and stares at it.
[In the streets]
Luzi and Ben are still running.
Luzi: Do you think we lost them? I think we lost them.
Ben: I think so.
(They stop and Ben starts laughing)
Luzi: Shit, do you think this is funny?
Ben: Absolutely.
Luzi: You just had a race in which we both could have died! Then that stolen car, you lost your car! And then we ran from the cops and you think this is funny?!
Ben: Luzi, we drove 180 km/h! 180 in the city! That's the greatest thing ever!
Luzi: You ran seven red lights!
Ben: Yes, I know!
(He still finds it all pretty amusing)
Luzi: Ben, are you crazy? (Yes, he probably is, because he kisses her. They kiss a little until Luzi stops) Um... er, are you hungry?
Ben: Hungry?
Luzi: Yes, we probably still have some varenyky in the fridge, from yesterday.
Ben: Yummy.
Luzi: And now let's continue... on foot.
Ben: Yeah, sure.
Luzi: Okay, cool, let's go.
[Saal Eins]
Stefan and Helena are drinking wine.
Stefan: You look wonderful.
Helena: I know.
Stefan: I haven't met many women who are so self-assured.
Helena: You have to be self-assured in my line of work, otherwise there'll be problems with the students really fast.
Stefan: And with the teachers.
Helena: What are you trying to say? You're talking about my husband, Michael Heisig. But if it makes you feel better – we're separated.
Stefan: Then I suggest that we talk about something nicer.
Helena: For example? I have a feeling I know what you mean.
[In Bea's bed]
Bea and Michael are cuddled up together. She kisses him
Bea: Are you okay?
Michael: Sure. (She starts kissing his neck) Bea? I'm sorry if I seemed a little weird earlier. That you are guidance counsellor now and … I know that you don't want to have these talks with Ben Bergmann... But...
Bea: But?
Michael: Just forget it. (She laughs) Just forget it, okay?
They resume what they were doing before.
[Saal Eins]
Helena: You know... (She runs her foot up Stefans leg under the table) I don't believe a woman necessarily needs a man to succeed.
Stefan: Is that so?
Helena: You doubt that?
Stefan: No. I'm just wondering... Aren't you acting a little inconsistent then?
Helena: (after retracting her foot) I said not necessarily. Of course it's nice if you have the choice.
Stefan: And you like to have the choice.
Helena: Of course. That means freedom, and freedom means happiness.
Stefan: Well, you should choose wisely then.
Helena: And how would that be?
Stefan: Let yourself be surprised!
[In Bea's bed]
Michael is topless now. And Bea is losing her shirt as well.
[Saal Eins]
Miriam: (coming up to the table) Excuse me, but we're closing soon. Would you like a digestif? (Editor’s Note: For those of you that don’t know, a digestif is an after dinner drink – like a brandy. This isn’t really a popular term in the US anymore – I know *I* wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for my Grandparents being quite fond of a digestif, or two! ;D )
Stefan: No, thanks, we would like to be alone some more. (You could have said that with a nicer tone...)
Helena: We'll have the check, please. (Miriam leaves) I suppose as a gentleman you're paying?
Stefan: Well of course!
Helena: Good. Thank you for the wine. (She gets up and leaves)
[In Jenny's bed]
(How am I supposed to think clearly when these two are being so adorable?)
Jenny: Are you still awake?
Emma: Yes, I am still awake. You?
Jenny: No, I'm talking in my sleep. You can start getting used to it.
Emma: You're stupid....
Jenny: Ey, I am stupid?
Emma: No, you're not. You're great.
Jenny: You're great yourself.
Emma: (taking a deep breath) Jenny?
Jenny: Emma?
Emma: Is it really okay if we wait?
Jenny: Wait? Wait for what?
Emma: Well... you know...
Jenny: Nope, I don't know, tell me.
(They stare at each other, then start laughing when Emma realizes Jenny is just messing around.)
Emma: Ahh, you're stupid!!
Jenny: (while playing with Emmas hands) Hey, but... I really don't mind. Please don't worry. I love you. I know this is all new for you, but... We will wait until we both really want it. Okay?
(Emma nods)
Emma: Do you think that your parents told Ben's father? About us?
Jenny: Definitely not. They first have to deal with it themselves.
Emma: And what are we going to do at school? Well... are we telling the others or not?
Jenny: Don't stress yourself. I'd say we’ll just wait and see. Okay?
Emma: Okay.
[Somewhere in the streets]
(Alexandra is sitting in her car, spying on Jens Mierbach, who has just arrived and is getting out of his car. Alexandra goes after him.)
Alexandra: Jens!
Jens: Alexandra! What are you doing here?
Alexandra: Just wanted to say hello, now that you're in town again.
Jens: Yeah, hello. It's just I don't have a lot of time.
Alexandra: Now wait a second. We haven't seen each other in a long time. Surely you can spare five minutes for me?
Jens: Alexandra, what do you want?
Alexandra: I want to know why you never called me, even though you knew what had happened to my sister! I want to know what that was about! Australia?
Jens: Alexandra.
Alexandra: You saw my sister get killed and just took off to Australia!?!
Jens: Alexandra!
Alexandra: While I am here, going crazy, because I didn’t know what happened to her!
Jens: That was ten years ago!
Alexandra: Exactly, ten years! I have been going crazy for ten years!
(Some people walk past them and while Alexandra reaches for the gun in her bag, Jens disappears.)
[At the Beschenko's]
(Luzi and Ben are just coming in, both entering Luzi's room.)
Ben: I can pull out the couch without Karin waking up.
Luzi: We saw that yesterday. (She closes the door behind them and fetches a camping mat) The least a good friend can do is let a good friend sleep on their floor after some idiot stole his car.
Ben: I guess you're right. (He lays out the mat and Luzi hands him a sleeping bag.)
Luzi: Sleeping bag.
Ben: Thanks.
(Luzi takes off her jacket, so does Ben. He's just about to take off his shirt when he realizes Luzi is standing there and everything is suddenly awkward.)
Ben: Um, how do you usually sleep? - I mean, in a shirt or naked?
Luzi: Uh, with a shirt of course.
Ben: Sure, me too.... Yeah... (He takes off his pants and they both quickly get into bed. They stare at each other once again) Night.
Luzi: Night.
[Beschenko breakfast table]
(Luzi and Ben are being quite obvious that something has happened.)
Karin: Is everything alright?
Luzi: Yeah!
Ben: Sure! Why?
Karin: Because you are hardly talking this morning.
Luzi: Tired. We got in very late last night.
Karin: Yeah. I heard you. (to Ben) You slept in Luzi's room, didn't you?
(Ben is desperately trying to think of something to say, so Luzi stutters.)
Luzi: We didn't want to wake you.
(And she can't look her mother in the eyes)
Ben: Because of the couch. (Luzi looks at him) I mean, we didn't want to pull it out because it is so loud. That's why I slept in Luzi's room.
Luzi: On the floor! On a camping mat!
Ben: And sleeping bag! (Karin just looks at the two of them, so they try to talk more, to seem normal) It's really comfy, by the way!
Luzi: Really?
Ben: Yeah, totally!
Luzi: Great!
Karin: Are you sure everything is okay?
Luzi: Yeah, why!?!
Karin: Because you're acting weird?!
(Sing it!)
Luzi: Nope, we're not acting weird at all! It's just that we have a test, so we have to leave now.
Karin: Ah, which subject?
Luzi: English!
(Simultaneously)
Ben: Maths!
Luzi: Maths!
Ben: English! … They will decide today. (Everyone in that room knows that Karin doesn't believe one word) Do you have money for the bus?
Karin: Are you not going by car today?
Ben: (and for the first few words also Luzi) Not today, it's... at the mechanic.
Karin: Mechanic.
Luzi: Yeah...
Ben: Bye.
(They leave)
[The school, in front of the stairs]
Michael: Do you have time for a coffee?
Bea: I have to head to the secretariat before.
Michael: That means yes.
(Helena comes from the other side and stops to watch them, but they don't see her.)
Bea: Last night was incredible, by the way.
Michael: I know. (Götting appears behind Helena and Bea pokes Michael) I mean, I thought the evening was really nice, too.
Götting: It's a difficult situation for you, I suppose. I mean, with your husband and Frau Vogel.
Helena: I am still the one who's married to Michael.
Götting: Of course. For now. (He leaves)
[In front of the snack bar]
Emma got herself and Jenny some coffee. When she hands one to Jenny, their fingers touch and they smile. (♫You can be the peanut butter to my jelly, you can be the butterflies I feel in my belly♫)
When Emma is sitting on a couch and Jenny walks past behind her, she lightly touches her on the back. They smile some more and when they have to leave for the next class, they walk behind everyone else so they can hold hands. (♫ Cause you're the one for me, for me! And I'm the one for you, for you! You take the both of us, of us! And we're the perfect two! We're the perfect two ♪ (Yes, you are))
[In the streets]
Apparently, Alexandra has been sleeping in her car. She suddenly wakes up and takes the gun in hand, just in time to see Jens leave the building she is parking in front of. He's carrying a bag and when he opens his trunk, Alexandra gets out of her car.
Alexandra: You sure don't want to leave just like that.
Jens: Alexandra! Yeah, I... What more am I supposed to do here? I can't do anything more than tell you that I am sorry about what happened to your sister.
Alexandra: Yes, you can. First, you can give me your car keys.
Jens: Excuse me?
(She takes out the gun and points it at his stomach. She actually pokes him with it. He surrenders his keys.)
Alexandra: And now your cell phone.
Jens: Alexandra, what are you doing?
Alexandra: Your cell phone!
(He surrenders that as well)
[Auditorium]
(What a stroke of luck, it's empty! Emma and Jenny are smiling widely as they enter.)
Jenny: How cool that the door is open. Is it always open?
Emma: Not normally.
(They go and “hide” behind one of the pillars... next to a huge glass window... for their new favourite activity – kissing.)
Jenny: Wow...
Emma: What is it?
Jenny: Nothing. I think I will always want to kiss you. From morning til evening.
Emma: Even if it's a secret for now?
Jenny: As long as you don't push me away just because someone sees us... That really hurt...
Emma: I know.
Bodo: (interrupting them) Oh. Sorry. (Emma covers her mouth in slight terror) I came for STAG...
Emma: That's at ten o'clock.
Bodo: It is ten o'clock. (They both check their watches, and see it is NOT ten o’clock – BODO!!!!!) Oh.
Emma: (sighing) That's Bodo....
Jenny: Hi Bodo.
[In the streets]
Jens: I can understand how horrible this all must be for you, but it’s not my fault that your sister is no longer alive!
Alexandra: You understand nothing! You covered for her murderer for years, and now you believe it's all OK because of an apology!?!
Jens: Believe me. If I could bring Franzi back to life –
Alexandra: Don't call her Franzi! And nobody can bring back my sister! Now close the trunk! (He does that) Go on! (She's pushing him towards the car with the gun) You're driving. (He gets in. Alexandra looks around, then gets in the passenger seat.)
Jens: And now?
Alexandra: Go!
[In front of the school]
Ben: Would it be okay with you if I crashed at your place a while longer? On the couch, of course.
Luzi: Yeah, sure. No, uh, I mean, no problem. You kinda have to.
Ben: Cool. I'll find something to earn some money, then I'll help pay the rent. At the latest – (He freezes and just stares when his car arrives in the parking lot beside them) That's Hugo!
(Ronnie and Sophie get out of the car)
Ronnie: Morning.
Ben: Ey, you're bringing me back my car, man, thanks!
Ronnie: Your car? You mean this one here? That's mine now. I won it yesterday. (to Sophie) Will you show me everything? (to Ben again) We're classmates now, by the way. Starting today I'm attending this school, too. What's it called again?
Sophie: Pestalozzi.
Ronnie: It's nice here.
